What is holistic dog grooming?

Holistic grooming looks at your dog's overall wellbeing, not just their appearance. At Holistic Hound Grooming, we focus on gentle handling, stress reduction, skin and coat health, comfort, and creating a positive grooming experience tailored to each dog's individual needs.

How often should my dog be groomed?

This depends on breed, coat type, lifestyle, and home maintenance. Most dogs benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks, while some long-coated or high-maintenance breeds may require more frequent appointments.

How long will my dog's appointment take?

Most appointments take between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on your dog's size, coat condition, temperament, and the services required.

Can I stay while my dog is being groomed?

To help dogs remain relaxed and focused, I generally recommend owners leave their dog with us during the appointment. However, puppy introductions and nervous dogs can be discussed on an individual basis.

 

What if my dog is nervous or anxious?

I specialise in providing a calm, one-to-one grooming environment. I work at your dog's pace, using gentle handling and positive reinforcement to help them feel safe and comfortable.

What should I do before my dog's appointment?

Please ensure your dog has:

​

• Had an opportunity to toilet before arrival

• Access to water

• Been walked if appropriate

• Any medical conditions or behavioural concerns disclosed prior to the appointment​

Do you groom puppies?

​

Yes. I recommend introducing puppies to grooming as early as possible after their vaccinations. Puppy sessions help build confidence and create positive grooming experiences. It's also a great way om me showing you some useful hints & tips on grooming your puo.

What if my dog's coat is matted?

​

I will always assess your dog's coat before grooming. Where possible, I will work to remove minor tangles. Severe matting can cause discomfort and may require clipping short to protect your dog's welfare.

Do you offer hand stripping?

​

Yes, hand stripping is available for suitable wire-coated breeds and maintained stripping coats. Coat assessments are carried out before each appointment.

Can you groom dogs with skin conditions?

​

I can support dogs with sensitive skin and certain veterinary-managed skin conditions. We will discuss suitable grooming products and techniques; however, I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions and will always refer concerns to your veterinarian.

What is Emmi-Pet ultrasonic teeth cleaning?

​

Emmi-Pet is a non-invasive ultrasonic teeth cleaning system designed to help reduce plaque, tartar, and bad breath while supporting good oral hygiene. It is not a replacement for veterinary dental treatment where dental disease is present.

Are your products natural?

​

I aim to use high-quality products that support skin and coat health. If your dog has allergies, sensitivities, or veterinary recommendations, please let me know before the appointment.

Do you require vaccinations?

​

For the safety of all dogs, I ask that dogs are up to date with vaccinations or have appropriate veterinary-approved titre testing where applicable.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept cash and most major card payments & bank transfer.

​

What is your cancellation policy?

​

I kindly request at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or appointment changes. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a charge.
